“The God’s Agony: Does God Suffer With Humanity?” explores a question that has haunted humanity across centuries: when pain spreads through nature, humanity, and innocence alike, is the divine merely observing or suffering alongside creation?
Through imagery of Shiva, Vishnu, Parvati, mountains, and a wounded world, this poem reflects on grief, helplessness, and the possibility that even God may weep.
Amidst these mountains
I have seen on the top of one
SHIVA: unarmed, meditating.
VISHNU: with branch-like hands,
Steady, Observing
On the far away side
Stands a giant, perhaps a guardian
With his sword firmly in his hand
And his soldiers beside
Jealous of him.
And at the heart of all
Where the heaven meets the land
The only force flowing
Is the holy goddess PARVATI.
But amidst all of it
I see trees turning black
And then Grey
Hearts corroding
Cattle bleeding
Coats being torn
Out of their skin.
I wonder, is it the power of the God
In the dark is it a sign of hope
Or their helplessness
Bound by rules of their own.
And in between this –
A tiny land, a pocket in the universe
I sit with my heart bleeding
But looking at the pure agony
Under God’s watch
I remain dumbfounded,
Forgotten of my wounds
But with a question in silence
Are the Gods watching
Or for his holy lap bleeding
He’s too weeping.
